The Source of the

The Chimaera
and Griffith
Resource is an idea that I’ve been considering since I was editor of the TVR Car Club magazines, Sprint. Financial realities limited the TVRCC’s ability to take it on so I considered turning it into an independent public magazine. The financial realities of such a move limited my abilities to take it on.
Once I handed over Sprint to Mandy O’Neale, and took a bit of time off for other matters, I took another look at the idea.
Market research showed that manuals don’t sell, even those digitised onto .pdfs. One car club, one of the biggest in this and any other country, sold seven workshop manuals in a year or so. The market was not, as you would have worked out, vibrant.
The theory was that there was much information available free on the web if one was willing to search for it. And there lay the problem, the search.
Search engines smack of genius. They have revolutionised the .net but they still come back with thousands of possibilities. How much better to have all the information you want in one spot.
For reasons which I’ve found overwhelming the best way of distributing this resource was not by way of an online website but as a download. One that is free. Yes free.
So what do you get.
Initially the Resource is a collection of articles, mainly initially being reports on what individuals have done to their car. It is not a servicing manual although servicing is covered in detail. The Resource is picture heavy - see right - with the wordage kept as brief as possible. Many who know me might find this difficult to believe but it is true. As time goes on the Resource will be updated with other items. At the moment I am preparing an article on dropping the sump to replace the gasket - see the under car photographs in the Resource to see why.
This website will ‘support’ the Resource and will include further non-Griff/Chim-specific articles.
So what have you got to lose? If you don’t reckon it you can bin it. If you haven’t got broadband - and the Resource file size is around 9meg as I write - then there is the option of a CD version. Of necessity I must charge for this, plus there is the cost of post and packing to add so from your point of view, and I have to say mine as there is no profit to be made, I would prefer it if you went via the download route.
As explained, left, the Resource is picture heavy. Here are a few of the images, much reduced, that populate the Resource. Top to bottom: air filter, PAS reservoir and bolts for adjusting belt tension.
