Professional veneering
When it is so easy - if a little time consuming - to veneer your own dashboard, why should you pay a not inconsiderable amount of money to have some bloke do it for you.
Well, have a look at some of the pictures below taken when I visited London Carriage Craft www.london-carriage-craft.com - and whilst they speak for themselves I see no reason to allow you this luxury.
A Griff dash with a one-piece, and exquisite, sheet of burr walnut. This is after sanding and without any finishing whatsoever. Just the wood. It looked very tactile and it was difficult to resist touching it.
LEFT: LCC was also reveneering panels from other cars, including a Mk II Jaguar and an immediately post war classic. This panel, a door capping, was deliciously warm and looked gorgeous.
ABOVE:Whilst this piece is obviously not from a TVR, it shows the amount of work that some parts take. The detail, LEFT: shows both the accuracy of the fit and the detail in the veneer.
The high level of workmanship is obvious.
Mind you, if you are not convinced, look at the image BELOW:
The join, visible centre image, will be all but invisible when finished.
LEFT: A bit of a before and after shot. It shows why the money charged by professional veneerers is hardly exorbitant. If you want quality work then you have to pay a bit more. Given the time it takes and the costs of the veneer, the charges are very reasonable.
